Word Guessr

Let Twitch chat guess the hidden word, reveal letters, and compete for leaderboard points.

Set up the game

  1. 1
    Open Word Guessr

Sign in to 7Overlay and open Chat Games → Word Guessr.

  2. 2
    Choose your words

Select English or Deutsch under Game language and adjust Maximum word length. Settings save automatically.

  3. 3
    Enable the chatbot

Under Channel bot, select Enable chatbot so the bot can listen for guesses in your Twitch channel. Check that its status changes to connected.

How a round works

The game selects a word from the chosen language. Its first and last letters are visible from the start; underscores hide the remaining letters. The overlay also shows the word length, guess count, and elapsed seconds.

Timed hints progressively reveal inner letters: every 20 seconds, the game raises the minimum number of revealed inner letters by one. Letters already revealed by guesses count toward that minimum.

The first correct answer earns one point and ends the round. If all letters are revealed without a correct answer, the round ends without awarding a point. The result and leaderboard appear for seven seconds before the next word starts automatically.

Guess through Twitch chat

Open Chat Commands to enable or disable each guessing method separately. All three are enabled by default:

  • word — send the answer directly.
  • !guess word — use the English command.
  • !wort wort — use the German command.

Replace word or wort with your answer. Guesses ignore letter case. German answers also accept ae, oe, ue, and ss in place of ä, ö, ü, and ß.

Positional matches and sentences

Positional matches is enabled by default. An incorrect guess with the matching word length can reveal letters that are in the correct positions. German transliterations are aligned to the original letter slots. Disable this option to stop incorrect guesses from revealing letters; timed hints still apply.

Words inside sentences is disabled by default, so the entire guess must match the answer. Enable it to accept the answer as a complete word within a longer message. A matching part of a larger word does not count. This also applies to the text after !guess or !wort.

Language and word length

Game language chooses English or German words and the overlay labels. Changing it starts a fresh round in that language.

Maximum word length ranges from 4 to 48 and defaults to 7. This is an upper limit, not a fixed word length. The setting applies to the next word; an active word that exceeds the new limit is replaced. The page recommends up to 7 letters for shorter words; 48 includes all available word lengths.

Customize the overlay

Choose an accent color, Box opacity, Overlay scale, font, and font weight. Fonts include built-in choices and your uploaded custom fonts.

Use 7TV cosmetics to show available 7TV badges and name paints in the leaderboard. Twitch badges controls global and channel badges separately.

Add it to OBS

Copy the Browser Source URL from Overlay setup and paste it into an OBS Browser Source. Use the Width and Height shown on the page, and check them again after changing Overlay scale. Select Open overlay to view the display in a separate tab.

Saved settings update the existing overlay. Keep the full source URL off stream, as indicated on the setup page. See OBS quick start for the general browser-source setup.

Scores and leaderboard

Each correctly solved word adds one point to the winner's saved score. The result screen shows the top three players. Scores persist across app and bot restarts.

Resetting scores is permanent.

Reset leaderboard opens a confirmation dialog. Confirming removes all saved Word Guessr scores for your game and cannot be undone.

Restart a round or reconnect the bot

Use New word / Reload round to replace the current word or recover a stuck round. It keeps the leaderboard scores and bot settings.

Use Restart chatbot when the enabled bot needs a fresh Twitch chat connection. This also starts a new word and keeps saved scores. Use Disable chatbot to stop accepting chat guesses; it does not pause the overlay's automatic rounds.
